Next and Redeye, dice to the finish

Summer 1

A great start to this year’s Summer Series – 10 knots blowing from the east, 14 boats primed for a dash to Tai Tam, rounding of Po Toi and big party at Ming Kee, the Aberdeen Boat Club’s favourite seafood restaurant.

At 1100, the sleek Swan 56, Parnassus, stormed across the line with Ocean’s Five snapping at its heels. Within minutes, all five IRC starters had tacked and were making for Chesterman Gate. No windward mark. Then it was the cruiser fleet, nine of them, giving chase and holding their own in the steady breeze, through the Beaufort Channel and beyond.

First home was Parnassus with Intrigue 20 seconds behind. Rex Au Yeung and his spirited crew in Daydream pulled out the stops to take line honours in PHS A and win on handicap. In PHS B, Scallywag finished last but came 1st. That’s yacht racing for you!
